5 Modernist Graphic Images

Modernism is:

Modernism started in 1850, it proposed new forms of art in which where appropriate to the present. The name modernism is usually shortened down to modern art which i understandable as the art created in this form is characterised by its constant innovation. 

Modernism has longingly been known for 'form following function' which means the design and purpose come before any ascetics, leaving the finished article fulfilling its purpose well.

This is an example of modernist design because it shows the grid being used well, which along with only black ink and no images it is clearly anti-ornimental and only uses the layout for the sake of being easy to read.

This example shows how type has been used to create an image for example the bottom part of this has now developed borders out of the type which makes the bottom part of the image alot easier to read opposed to the top part.

Max Huber - Pirelli scooter, 1957

This is a poster for pirelli tyres which has used colour to further express how the tyres are moving. The lines crate a sense of movement throughout the whole design. This links into the function of what the tyres are for.

The poster here is from 1926 when photography was still rather new and the use of pink and green really makes the text stand out from the background which allows the piece to be easily read. Being clear and consist links back to its form following function.

This is modernist because the overall lok is very anti-decrotive with type being sprawled over the design. The text is easy to read, that which is supposed to be read as a whole. The whole feel of the piece is very new feeling as its not the normal way of viewing type.
